A Successful Green Summit in the Midlands

A Successful Green Summit in the Midlands

The hall was packed to capacity with internal and external stakeholders of the Durban University of Technology Midlands Green Campus Initiative (GCI) during its annual summit.

The summit which is held every year in both Durban and the Midlands was attended by the likes of Umgeni Water, KZN Wildlife Ezemvelo, DUT and UKZN Student Representative Council (SRC), local High Schools and the media.
Addressing and welcoming guests, Ntokozo Dube Coordinator of the Midlands Campus GCI team, said the summit was to reflect on their purpose as GCI, discuss challenges that were faced the previous year and to set objectives for the current year.

“For us to attract more stakeholders and to be a success we saw a need to formally launch our summit and in doing so, we also needed to invite as many people as we could. Many of our stakeholders know how much we have invested in our campaigns the previous year and for us to grow from that we needed to sit together and speak of everything so that going forward we can improve ourselves and grow as a team,” he said.
GCI was initiated at DUT’s Midlands Campuses in 2011 and since its emergence, the team has launched various projects that contribute immensely to environmental education and awareness. The summit was not only just speeches and talks but it also consisted of entertainment and a gala event.
