What is a Somatologist?
A Somatologist is a person who is interested in assisting others in improving their general wellness and aesthetic appearance through information and practice of healthy life style habits, product use and clinic treatments.
Somatology Clinic DUT
This clinic provides a variety of conventional spa treatments as well as promotes wellness through offering complementary therapies, for example reflexology and aromatherapy. Additionally, specialised face and body care treatments are provided to address concerns such as ageing, pigmentation, weight loss management, assists sports recovery through deep tissue massage and hydrotherapy. Entrepreneurship is encouraged through the retailing of a variety of products and promotions, designed by students that are run throughout the academic year. Gift vouchers can also be purchased from the clinic. Private and corporative group bookings can be arranged.
Therefore the Somatology Clinic DUT is a little oasis on DUT Ritson Road Campus, situated in the new Health Sciences Clinic. Here staff, students and members of the public come for relaxation, skin and body care treatments and wellness programmes. Various promotions run throughout the year. Special rates and gift vouchers can be purchased from the clinic for treatments and products that are sold.
Community service learning projects are coordinated through the clinic. Staff and students also support KZN sporting endeavours such as the Comrades Marathon and the Thomas Moore 85km walk.
A number of quality treatments at affordable rates using a selection of recognised brands are offered. These include: deep cleansing facials, non-surgical face lifting, sonophoresis, galvanic specialised moisturising or ageing facial treatments, manual and mechanical massage (Swedish, hot stone, sports) therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, slimming, waxing, hand and foot care.
