Denel PMP hosted students from the Durban University of Technology in the month of September.

The group of 31 students and their Senior Lecturer Environmental Health Dr. Ivan Niranjan were given exposure to the following areas of the business:

• Occupational Health and Safety and Occupational Hygiene Programmes/laboratories
• Medical Surveillance Program
• Environmental and Waste Management
• Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001)

The visit was aimed at complementing the students’ theoretical knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.

As well as to broaden their exposure to the defence and ammunition manufacturing environment. The students also got a chance to tour the campus in the Small Arms and Proof Ranges where they were taken through the manufacturing process and educated on the importance of OHS in a production environment.

The importance of Quality and Proper waste management in a production environment was covered by the Quality Department ‘s Ntombi Mkgokgoni who educated the learners on the ISO standards and how they impact on our trading standards as a business.

The day was quite eventful with the students being fascinated by the products we manufacture and the information they were being given regarding their area of studies and future expertise.

OHS Manager Paul Mpofu gave the learners an opportunity to visit our Campus after receiving a letter from the Faculty of Environmental Studies to host these bright young minds.

They have been visiting different companies to gain exposure in their area of studies. The first and second year students, could not contain their excitement when they visited the proof ranges. We can confidently say we were the best company they have visited thus far.
