DUT GCI Pageant A Success

DUT GCI Pageant A Success

Cheers, whistles and excitement filled DUT’s Fred Crookes Sports Centre, last night (Thursday, 6 April 2017) during the Fourth Annual Green Campus Initiative (GCI) Mr & Miss Green pageant.

The competition was organised by the Department of Student Housing and DUT GCI. DUT GCI is an initiative aimed at encouraging students to conserve nature and be aware of issues on climate change. DUT GCI’s main objectives include teaching students and the DUT community on nature conservation, plantation and preserving power.

“The role of the competition is not just to advertise the existence of the organization but also to make everyone aware about issues surrounding our climate and the importance of nature,” said Andile Masuku, DUT GCI Project Officer.
Thandeka Mchunu was crowned Miss Green and Sifiso Blose was named Mr Green 2017. Each of the winners were presented with tablets and a one year contract to represent DUT GCI contract.

The competition was sponsored by RadioDUT, Department of Somatology and Go Mobile Wireless. Entertainment was provided by DUT students.
