DUT Graduation Numbers have increased

DUT Graduation Numbers have increased

We are excited to confirm that there is an increase in the number of graduates at Durban University of Technology this year.

A total number of 5796 students will graduate during the April/May 2017 graduation ceremonies that will commence in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 25 April 2017. DUT’s autumn graduation numbers have increased by 378 compared to last year.  A total of 970 students will graduate from the Midlands Campus and 4826 will graduate at the Durban graduation ceremonies.

The Pietermaritzburg graduation ceremonies will commence on Tuesday, 25 April and end on Wednesday, 26 April 2017. Meanwhile, the Durban graduation ceremonies will take place from Monday, 8 May to Friday, 12 May 2017.

During these graduation ceremonies, two of DUT’s #FeesMustFall leaders, Nkosinathi “Passfour” Phungula and Bonginkosi “Education” Khanyile, will graduate in Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Nkosinathi Phungula will obtain his Bachelor of Education Degree on Tuesday (25 April 2017) morning, during the Faculty of Arts & Design’s graduation ceremony. Phungula, a former Deputy SRC President was one the first students from DUT to be offered an opportunity to study for a semester programme at the King Juan Carlos University in Spain. Phungula had also worked on campaigns such as collecting sanitary pads for young girls, as well as collecting school shoes for pupils attending rural schools.

Meanwhile, Bonginkosi Khanyile will graduate Cum Laude for his National Diploma in Public Management on Wednesday morning (10 May 2017), during the Faculty of Management Sciences graduation ceremony in Durban. Khanyile was granted R250 bail earlier this year after being detained for almost six months after he was arrested by the police in September 2016, during the #FeesMustFall student protests.

DUT wishes to congratulate all graduates who will be receiving their certificates during this graduation season. We are thrilled that 5796 DUT students will be graduating and making their contribution towards the progress and development of our country.
