The Durban University of Technology on Friday the 11th of September 2015 hosted the Siyazakhela staff tournament at DUT’s Fred Crookes Sport Centre. The winners of the day were given trophies, medals, balls and kits.
The tournament consisted of two sporting codes in football and netball. It was a joint venture from the staff of the four institutions: DUT, University of KwaZulu- Natal, Mangosuthu University of Technology and Izwi Lomzansi FM.

The main aim of the Siyazakhela tournament was to create a partnership between these four institutions.

DUT’s Executive Secretary to the Dean of Students Services, Thulile Duma, said “We had organised this tournament because we wanted to promote social cohesion as well as encourage a healthy lifestyle  because some of us are not doing any exercise to maintain our fitness levels,’’ Duma said.

In football Izwi Lomzansi FM was crowned champions, after the Durban based community radio station beat MUT 4-1 in a penalty shootout

In netball the home side DUT managed to beat UKZN 26-6 to make sure that the trophy remains in DUT.

The tournament was also attended by a handful of DUT students, who were undeterred by  the rain, one of them Mcebisi Khumalo, said “It is a great day and it is a good initiative for staff to get an opportunity to network and share ideas. I am here to support our DUT staff and I hope they do well at home,’’ Khumalo said.
