DUT statement on the national fee hike campaign

DUT statement on the national fee hike campaign

Statement by Professor Ahmed Bawa, Vice-Chancellor and Principal at the Durban University of Technology

Examinations at the Durban University of Technology were postponed for this afternoon (Thursday, 22 October 2015) and tomorrow (Friday, 23 October 2015). A decision as to when the exams will resume will be made tomorrow (Friday, 23 October 2015). We will update all students via SMS and the student portal and DUT4life accounts. Staff should monitor the DUT PinBoard and DUT Matters for updates.

The University remains open.

President Jacob Zuma has called a meeting with all Vice-Chancellors tomorrow (Friday, 23 October 2015) with regard to the fees must fall national student campaign. We hope that something positive will come out of that meeting.

The Durban University of Technology will protect the constitutional right of students to protest as long as the protest does not turn violent, there is no damage to property and members of the DUT community are not harassment.
