Students and Staff happy to be back at DUT

After eight weeks of the staff strike, the Durban University of Technology students and staff are delighted to have the university fully operational. DUT’s Publications Officer, Waheeda Peters had some of the students and staff share their views on the process of registration being back on track for 2018.

Nande Faku,First year Journalism student at the Faculty of Arts and Design said: “I am ecstatic to be back on campus and I have already started classes. I already have assignments that are due.”

Akhil Ishwarlal, First year Information Technology (IT) student at the Faculty of Accounting and informatics said: “For me registration was relatively easy because I registered online. Now I have to get my student card.”

Maaseha Gori, First year Radiography student at the Faculty of Health Sciences said: “There has been a lot of ups and downs, but I am finally at the stage of doing my student card. So I am happy with regards to that. It is also very good to have classes resume. I now feel as part of the Durban University of Technology family.”

Meanwhile this is what the DUT staff had to say:

Nobantu Buthelezi, EAP Admin Assistant, Human Resources said: “It’s a relief that registration has commenced although the order has been disrupted and now the academic year can finally pick up. Even though the University is two months behind, I strongly believe that everyone is trying their best to make sure that the students get the education they came for and as a staff member we are making sure that the reputation of this institute is kept in a good light.  I just hope that the students and staff members work together to make due with the little time that we have.”

Nonhlanhla Khumalo, Midlands Writing Centre said:“I am looking forward to helping students with their assignments as well as working closely with students and lecturers to achieve this goal. We are moving the Writing Centre inside the libraries, so that it is easily accessible and to give the best possible service to the students.”

Sudhika Palhad, Project coordinator at EDU said: “Things are running smoothly, I  hope it stays this way and I  look forward to our students graduating soon.”
