You are invited to join us for the Inclusive Cities Symposium: The Port

Date: Thursday, 17th November 2016

Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Venue: DUT Steve Biko Campus, S2 Block

The Urban Futures Centre (UFC) and the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) are jointly hosting the first ‘Inclusive City Symposium’, focusing on the port of Durban. More than discussing the port as it exists in the present, the symposium aims to explore alternative visions of what the port and surrounding areas could be in the future. Particularly, the symposium is interested in the opportunities that these alternative visions may hold in relation to people, tourism, sustainable energy, and economic development without destructive social and environmental costs. The symposium is a daylong coming together of academics, civil society, private and public sectors actors, who will present, listen to and engage with new ideas and innovative visions for what Durban as a port city could be. Port cities around the world can be places that bring people together in inclusive ways. This symposium brings together a collection of voices to think about how the port of Durban may also do this in our city, both in the present and in the future.

Join us for a day of constructive deliberation, conversation and debate Programme to follow shortly
