Durban will be abuzz with local and international publishers, editors, managing directors, CEOs and other senior news executives, attending the 69th World News Media Congress at the International Convention Centre from 7 to 9 June 2017.
The Durban University of Technology is the official academic partner at the Congress and the Department of Co-operative Education under the helm of Shakeel Ori, will have students from various faculties of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) working on a voluntary basis, at the three-day congress as brand ambassadors of DUT and of our province, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). There will also be a DUT desk which will be manned by some of the Faculty of Arts and Design Journalism students and staff, who will also help the international media at the Congress with the news and multicultural desk in terms of disseminating news.
The international summit, this year, 2017, is set to focus on issues of gender in the news industry. High-powered women from South Africa such as Ferial Haffajee, editor-at-large of Huffington Post South Africa and editor in chief of the African Network of Centers for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR) as well as Vasantha Angamuthu, Chief Strategy Officer at Independent Media South Africa, will give talks on gender at the workplace.
