Exploring Our Next World Through Fashion

Exploring Our Next World Through Fashion

The Fashion and Textiles Department at DUT will hold its annual Fashion Show to be held from Wednesday, 28 September 2016 to Friday, 30 September 2016 at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus, Durban.

The coveted annual event will showcase the designs of 38 third-year students; with the best 20 ranges showcased at the gala evening on Friday 30September.

Themed: After Earth, the student designers were asked to explore their own vision of our next world. With this broad theme, students had to look at what their beliefs in fashion were and what they wisedh to portray to the outside world.

This year’s panel of judges will include established personalities from the local fashion/design industry. Sponsored prizes will be awarded to the best designers in the categories of Most Innovative Range, Best Range on Show, Most Commercial Range, Best Menswear Range and Best Technical Student.

“The class of 2016 have extended themselves by incorporating fabric printing and fabric manipulation techniques such as wet felting, tufting, beading and macramé to enhance their designs,” said Meena Bagwandin, third-year Pattern and Garment Technology Lecturer. “The show affords them a platform to expose their current talent by meeting and fulfilling the theme of the show, with a strong focus on quality,” she added.

Tickets for the show cost R50.00 for Wednesday and Thursday, and R60.00 for Friday. Tickets will be available at Computicket and at the door.
