Students residing at the Durban University of Technology residences will have an opportunity to unwind before their final examinations and summer break.
The students are to be treated to a movie night themed “Dedela Istress ngeMovie” (“let go of stress”). The event scheduled for Ster Kinekor Gateway is an idea by a Public Relations Intern Samukelisiwe Ngcamu whom, as a student herself understands anguish of preparing for exams.
“The 2017 academic year has seen many challenges within tertiary institutes in the country, amongst many, financial aid and residence issues for DUT students,” explained Ngcamu.
It is the first time that DUT hosts this event for its students and Ngcamu hopes this would be a relaxing, rewarding and confidence building exercise for students.
According to Ngcamu the day was planned and executed by someone who went through these challenges, understands how it is like being a student at DUT in 2017.
Hundredths of students will be beneficiaries to this program and they are to be transported to and from the venue free of charge.
“What is a better way to help students have that one-day reliever and distress, she asked. The whole aim is to have two hours of fun, where students socialize and look forward to their final exams and they will be provided with popcorn and soft drinks,” said Ngcamu.
The name of the movie is “Boo 2- “Medea’s Halloween” a comedy by Tyler Perry under the “Dedela I stress nge movie” is a mixture of IsiZulu and South Africa’s lingo meaning release stress by watching a movie.
