His Love for Radio Keeps Him Going

Meet RadioDUT’s longest serving disc jokey: Mfanuphetheni Zulu.

Zulu, who hails from rural Nongoma’s Mandlakazi area is a third year Biomedical Technology student. Although his career path is different from his love of radio, the ambitious DJ still finds time to juggle his studies and radio.

Being a fan of Ukhozi fm, Zulu made his mission to be part of RadioDUT when it launched in June 2014. “I am a big fan of Ukhozi fm. I listen to it all the time and I think that is where my love for radio began. When I heard that DUT was going to launch its own radio station, I rushed to do my demo and handed it in before I went for auditions,” he recalls.

Zulu is a self-starter whose love for radio was also instilled by the likes of Vuma fm’s Linda Sibiya, the late Shadrack Ngema and many other radio deejays. When Zulu speaks of his love for radio, you can hear the excitement through his voice.

“I love RadioDUT and am very happy to be part of it. However, I wish our dream to get a frequency could come true one day,” said Zulu. His other aspirations include being an Ukhozi fm DJ one day.
