Humboldt University Keen to Form MoU with DUT

An international delegation headed by Professor Elmar Volke, Faculty of Mathematics And Natural Sciences Dean, and Dr Lech Suwala, Economic Geography Working Group Representative from the Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, recently visited DUT in a bid to form a partnership between the two universities.

The delegation from Humboldt University were travelling with a group of students and are particularly interested in special economic development and energy development. The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is ranked among the eleven ‘excellence universities’ in Germany. The University offers a broad variety of studies; ranging from humanities, social and cultural studies as well as natural and agricultural sciences to human medicine.

Previous talks were held by DUT and representatives with the WISTA-MANAGEMENT GMBH, an associate company of the Federal State of Berlin and operator of the Adlershof Science and Technology Park, one of Germany’s most successful high tech hubs, regarding setting up an MoU with German universities such as Humboldt University.

A possible student-exchange programme between the two universities as well as exchanging academic knowledge in terms of energy development was discussed during the meeting.

DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Ahmed Bawa, spoke about the issue of amalgamating skills development between the two universities. “This not so much on the level of degrees but on training people for vocational work and the possibility of setting up a joint Master’s and Doctoral degrees programme in future,” said Prof Bawa.

The delegation was also keen to learn of the various roles of faculty departments at DUT and to continue talks on forming an academic partnership with DUT in order to establish a local regional development hub, in time to come.
