Isolempilo Clinic Promotes Healthy Lifestyles

Addressing emotional, psychological and social well-being issues were the main objectives of the 2017 Mental Health and Wellness Fair, held by Isolempilo Campus Health Clinic at DUT’s Sports Centre, last Wednesday.

The health fair was held in an aim to promote health and well-being amongst the University community. The event incorporated over 40 stakeholders such as Virgin Active and the South African National Blood Services (SANBS), to name a few.

Addressing students, Naseem Haniff, Director of DUT’s Student Counselling and Health, encouraged students to live healthier lifestyles. “It is vitally important that you look after yourselves well, you have to make sure you eat properly and live a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

Upon organising the health fair, a survey was conducted by Student Health and Counselling to investigate how students were eating and how their lifestyles affected their productivity in their academics. “According to the survey we conducted, our students especially those living at student residence consume mostly junk food, hence we saw a need to host this fair. We hope that after this event students will be able to go out and live a healthy lifestyle with the information they have been equipped with from the exhibitors,” said Nothando Buthelezi, intern at Isolempilo Clinic

Music, poetry and zumba fitness demonstrations as well as Kung-Fu Thai Chi formed part of the entertainment for the day.
