Officially launched in October 2015, the Lenovo Innovation Centre was rebranded and relaunched with refreshed equipment provided by Lenovo, recently.

Prof Prinsloo, representing the Deputy Vice – Chancellor of Research and Partnerships, welcomed all to the event and thanked Lenovo for partnering with DUT to make the Lenovo Innovation Centre a reality. The Centre was a first for a South African academic institution when it was initially launched and it continues to showcase Lenovo’s products while benefiting the students at DUT, who get to use them.

Lucille Webster, Library Director, spoke of how the partnership with Lenovo makes the latest cutting-edge equipment accessible to students. She thanked Lenovo and ITSS for their roles in making this possible.

Soren Aalto, Director of Information Technology Support Services, spoke of Lenovo’s ongoing role as a provider of equipment and services at DUT. He pointed out that the range of equipment made available in the Lenovo

Innovation Centre included robust, affordable devices that are relevant to students and staff. “This is especially important as DUT needs to find ways to enable student access to e-learning initiatives, making them ‘online citizens of the DUT community’, and thereby contributing to student success,” he said.

According to Mohammed Ramathulla, Sales Director of Lenovo South Africa, education remains one the biggest challenges for South Africa. “Lenovo considers their provision of access to technology through the Innovation Centre a small initiative that will give DUT students the best start so that they can go on to contribute positively to the economy and a better South Africa,” he added.

DUT looks forward to future partnerships with Lenovo.
