Meet Dime Maziba, the writer of Political Poetry

Dime Maziba is an author, poet and third-year Financial Accounting student at the Durban University of Technology.

In exploring Harlem Renaissance and lyrical forms, Maziba discovered his artistic project on identification with the African masses. Since the discovery, his work has been highly influenced by South Africa’s well-known poet, Eugene Skeef.

The author (Maziba) of Flames of Revolution, a book focusing on political poetry, is ecstatic to finally have a date set to publish his book. Maziba’s book (Flames of Revolution) focuses on issues such as the war in his home country, the Republic of Congo, the despicable rise of Boko Haram in Nigeria, Xenophobia and the South African Apartheid regime. Some of the poems are dedicated to struggle icons such as the late Dr Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko.

“My poetry is simply inspired by my background. I write to encourage unity amongst Africans and to also convey messages about Africa and imperialistic interest,” said Maziba.
His writing is not only in English but some of his poems are written in French. According to Maziba, when the Congolese war became unbearable, he did not only seek refuge in South Africa but also found a sense of belonging in his writing about everything he had experienced and saw at the time.

“I started writing at the tender age of 14 years. I found peace in writing after my family and I moved to South Africa in order to escape the war in Congo. My poems were used to seek assistance and guidance from South Africans who had just won the battle over their apartheid regime,” reiterated Maziba.

He (Maziba) is a member of the French Alliance. He has also performed at the Poetry Society which is held at DUT every Friday. He is an activist and currently heads his own Non-Governmental (NGO) that looks after underprivileged children in his country (Congo).

He has been nominated for the Best Peoples’ Poet Award. His book will be sold from Thursday, 15 June 2017 by the Classic Age Publishing Company. The book (Flames of Revolution) can also be pre-ordered for R150 at info@ClassicAgePublishing.co.za.
