The Faculty of Arts has the long reputation of producing artists of both national and international stature. A significant number of its graduates are easily absorbed in the job market while the entrepreneurial and venturesome become self-employed and invariably become creators of employment for others.
The Faculty of Arts excels in training students to unlock their expressive and artistic talents. Its philosophy is based on the notion that human talent and potential are unlimited. The Faculty offers programmes that are nationally and internationally acclaimed. It also offers a nationally unique programme in Video Technology. To assist students whose high school education was not orientated towards the Arts, the Faculty of Arts offers a short programme called the Foundation Course.
Well qualified and dedicated staff work around the clock to ensure that students get the best education in the Arts. Its visual and performance arts programmes are a solid anchor on which the Durban University of Technology derives pride. The Faculty of Arts also houses the Gallery which is the custodian of art pieces that are of highest standard.
In its endeavours to produce graduates, the Faculty of Arts is directed by the national policy imperatives and the international trends in the training of visual and performing artists. The Faculty has a number of community outreach programmes that are located in individual academic Departments.
