Media Release by Sibusiso Nxumalo Public Relations Management Intern at the Student Counselling and Health Centre

The Durban University of Technology’s Student Counselling and Health Centre will pay honour and gratitude to all South African women by hosting its annual Women’s Day celebration themed “Women, Power, Respect” on Wednesday of 8 August 2012 at the Cane Growers Hall, DUT ML Sultan Campus.

“We respect and honour the women who took a stand against oppression laws by celebrating their achievement of a free democratic South Africa for all genders, races, and cultures”, said Senior Psychologist Sihle Mbanjwa of the Department of Student Counselling and Health.

This year, the main objectives is to highlight to the community of DUT the importance of being a woman, the power that a woman possesses and the respect that a woman should receive and grant unto others. Ela Gandhi, mother, activist as well as granddaughter of the late Mahatma Gandhi will be one of the main guest speakers. Also sharing her wisdom will be Ranilla Pillay, Chairperson of the Gender Forum at the Durban University of Technology. The guest speakers will all deliver key note messages in accordance to the theme.
