DUT: An Exhibition of Fine Art Jewellery

DUT: An Exhibition of Fine Art Jewellery

DUT: AN EXHIBITION OF FINE ART JEWELLERY

Venue: Durban University of Technology, Art Gallery
Opening date: 18 September 2007
Closing date: 11 October 2007
Exhibition title: “Spirit in Nature”
Artist name: Michelle Pujol

Pujol’s unique designs influenced by nature’s organic forms, its meanings and influence. Falling between being sculptural display artifacts to being functional pieces of jewellery, Pujol’s training background is evident through her wittily creative and unique designs. With a Fine Art Diploma, she has also received a Jewellery Design Bachelor’s Degree.

Suggesting a feeling of femininity and fragility, her jewellery is pristine using silver mostly and sometimes inserting strokes of gold. A botanic collection, designs sourced from the shape of vines, leaves, seedpods, flowers. In her artist’s statement she says, ‘I like to create drama by creating tension or a sense of fragility with a piece. Dark against light, large seemingly fragile flowers dangle precariously from a tentative wire, vigorous movement leading in to quite space. These are some of the ways that I achieve this sense of organic authenticity.’ Inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy, Georgia O’Keeffe, Kayo Saito and Megan Cronin, she considers the works in this collection a journey of self discovery.

The public welcome is welcome to the opening night and the exhibition will be running for four weeks. Items on exhibition will be for sale, unsold items will be on auction on the evening of the 2 October 2007 at 6pm. The gallery is opening five days a week from 8 – 4:30 pm Mon – Thurs and 8: 3pm on Fridays.
