DUT ATHLETE TO REPRESENT SOUTH AFRICA IN SOUTHERN REGION HALF MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIP

Durban University of Technology Sports Centre Supervisor, Thubalethu Phaku will participate in Athletic South Africa’s Southern Region Half Marathon Championship at Ezulwini, in Swaziland on Saturday 24 September 2011.

Phaku recently received a silver medal after finishing second in the 30-34 age category at the 2011 South African Cross Country Championship in Bloemfontein. Team KZN also finished second in the team event, bagging a few more silver medals in the process. Earlier this year, Phaku participated in the South African National Half Marathon Championships in Port Elizabeth.

The silver medalist, who has not featured in the national team for the past four years, is ecstatic about representing South Africa again. “I am so happy to represent my country in the championships, it is quite an achievement. It’s been a while since I’ve participated in the national team as I took a break to complete my studies in Sports Management,” said Phaku.
