DUTs Advocate Robin Sewlal elected Convenor of SANEF in KZN

Media statement by Nomonde Mbadi, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at the Durban University of Technology

Advocate Robin Sewlal has been elected Convenor of the South African Editors’ Forum (Sanef) in KwaZulu-Natal with immediate effect.

A known figure in media circles, Advocate Sewlal, Associate Director in Journalism at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is tasked to drive media issues in the province.

Advocate Sewlal says he wants to start by focusing on community media to ensure they also get involved and play a meaningful role in Sanef. He also wants to invest his energy in identifying opportunities that journalists can exploit around the 2010 World Cup. He sees the event not only as a soccer extravaganza, but also a platform to cover a range of socio, economic and political issues.

Advocate Sewlal is happy that community television is beginning to take off in the country. He hopes that soon down the line communities in different parts of South Africa would be able to tune into their own television service.
