Recognising Honeydew Dairies in DUT’s Academic Development

Honeydew Dairies, which is located in KwaZulu-Natal’s Midlands area, has actively assisted DUT’s Environmental Health Studies students for approximately 10 years.

In recognition of this commitment, the University’s Environmental Heath Studies Programme held an awards ceremony yesterday (4 August 2015) where awards were issued to Mark Davies, Honeydew Managing Director, as well as other staff at the company who have assisted the students over these many years.

The dairy industry forms a major part of the Environmental Health Studies National Diploma curriculum. Through this participation, DUT students have received instruction on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements and audits and gained knowledge on aspects of food safety. “Mr Mark Davies specifically approached the lecturers of DUT offering his services and those of Honeydew to participate in the academic development of our students. Honeydew Dairies not only assist Environmental Health Students, but also students from other disciplines, mainly within their quality control laboratories,” said Graham Barratt, Environmental Heath Studies Senior Lecturer.
