Prof Nepal was appointed as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics from 1 December 2007. He commenced as a lecturer at the M L Sultan Technikon in July 1980 and worked his way through the ranks to the post of Senior Director in the Department of Information Technology.

He previously served as the Head of the Department of Computer Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at M L Sultan Technikon and the Durban Institute of Technology.

He has a Doctoral Degree in Information Technology from the M L Sultan Technikon, 2 Masters of Science degrees, one in Computer Science from the University of Natal, and the other in Information Systems from University of South Africa. He also holds an Honours in Commerce and an Accounting Science degree from the University of Natal.

Prof Nepal is currently the chairperson of the South African Research Society on Methodology of Societal Complexity. He previously served as the Chairperson of the South African Computer Lecturers Association. His research and publications are in the field of Information Technology, Group Decision Support Systems and Automated Timetabling at Tertiary Institutions. He has presented papers at both national and international conferences. Some of his international presentations centres include: Toronto, Edinburgh, Budapest, Christchurch, and Kobe in Japan.

As an Executive Dean, Prof Nepal is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics. He also interacts with student leadership, support departments, executive management, government structures, community and the business sector.
