Spring Graduation 2015 by Numbers

A total of 893 students will graduate at the Durban University of Technology during its Spring graduation ceremonies which take place on Wednesday, 03 September 2015, at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus, Durban.

Desmond D’Sa, Durban’s environmental justice watchdog and 2014 Goldman Environmental Prize winner will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Health Sciences during the graduation ceremonies. The Honorary Doctorate, which is in honour of D’Sa’s role as a leading advocate and spokesman for social and environmental justice, will be conferred at 13h00 at the University’s Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban, during the Spring Graduation ceremony.

Four students with disabilities will graduate. A total of 381 female students and 512 male students will graduate. In total, 698 African students, 13 Coloured students, 148 Indian students, 32 White students and 2 students classified as “other” will graduate.

The number of graduates by qualification is as follows:

– National Diploma: 521
– BTech: 325
– BTech (4 year): 03
– MTech: 20
– DTech: 1
– Master’s: 17
– Doctorate: 02
– PhD: 04

In April this year (2015), 5405 students graduated at DUT, bring the total number of students who graduated at DUT in 2015 to 6298.

During the April Graduation ceremonies, a total of 18 Doctor of Technology (DTech) degrees, 63 Master of Technology (MTech) degrees, 2289 Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees, 3322 National Diplomas (NDip) and 54 Certificates were issued. Two Honorary Doctorates were conferred; one to music maestro and Ladysmith Black Mambazo Founder, Joseph Shabalala by the Faculty of Arts and Design and to business mogul, Dr Richard Maponya from the Faculty of Management Sciences.
