The Durban University of Technology’s Information Technology Department (IT), in partnership with Microsoft, is currently hosting the Windows 10 Hackathon where techno enthusiast can learn about building apps and services for the Windows 10 platform.
The Hackathon, which is being held at the University’s Ritson Campus, kicked off on Tuesday, 29 September 2015, and ends today, 30 September 2015.

DUT signed memorandum of understanding with Microsoft where both parties agreed to work together for the enrichment of students.

On day one, exciting features of the Windows 10 Universal platform were showcased. Today (day two) is a full day Hackathon where attendees build Windows Universal Apps.

Morris Masuku, Microsoft Appfactory Developer who did his presentation on Adaptive UI, emphasised the significance of the six points of adaptive design techniques.

Brendon Page, Software Developer at Chillisoft, said that the presentations were informative, adding that student ideas would be put into practice. “For the IT industry, this shows that it is growing as students are getting involved in the tools that are used in the industry,” said Page.

Lionel Chetty, DUT IT second year student and Microsoft Student Partner, said students would benefit from the event. “Once we graduate, we are going to work in the industry using the same technology that we are learning about today,” Chetty said.
