UPDATE ON THE RESUMPTION OF CLASSES

UPDATE ON THE RESUMPTION OF CLASSES

Tuesday 4 October 2016

To all students and staff
DUT Durban & Midlands Centre

Dear students and colleagues

UPDATE ON RESUMPTION OF CLASSES

Yesterday, we reached agreement with our SRC regarding the resumption of classes at DUT.

Last night, DUT students in Pietermaritzburg held a mass meeting and they agreed to return to lectures this morning.

The SRC will host a student meeting in Durban today. Now that we have reached a resolution with our SRC, the academic programme will resume on all campuses.

Therefore, I am pleased to confirm, as per the agreement reached with our SRC, that from tomorrow (Wednesday, 5 October 2016), that the student protest action at DUT will be suspended and all classes will resume. However, the police will still be monitoring the situation at DUT and we have been advised by police management that they will take the necessary action to prevent any further disruption to our academic calendar.

The various academic departments will update all students about the revised test and examination schedules once the academic programme resumes.

Finally, let me take this opportunity to thank all staff, students, parents and guardians for their patience, support and understanding – whilst we were managing and dealing with the disruptions over the last week.

Sincerely
Prof. Theo Andrew
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations (Acting)
