Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision at DUT

Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision at DUT

The Durban University of Technology’s HIV/AIDS Centre, in conjunction with DramAIDE, invites members of the media

and  DUT community to participate in the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) roadshow taking place tomorrow on Thursday, 30 July 2015.

The roadshow will be held at the DUT Ritson Campus car park, Winterton Road. With the aim of using innovative ways to educate students about the importance of sexual and productive health, the University’s HIV/AIDS Centre hopes to encourage positive attitudes towards VMMC.

VMMC is a process of surgically removing the foreskin from the phallus to improve personal hygiene as well as significantly reduce the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections including but not limited to HIV. The procedure is brief and pain-free and can administered during the day. The use of condoms is still vital even after circumcision.

The event will also feature entertainment from Afro-Soul, Joocy as well as talks pertaining to sexual health and issues related to men and health in general.

The details of the event are as follow:

 Date:  Thursday, 30 July 2015

Time: 11am

Venue: DUT Ritson Campus car park, Winterton Road
