Biography: Associate Professor L. Makondo has been an educator since 1996 and taught at 3 high schools. As a qualified designer, facilitator, assessor and moderator, he has been a graduate teaching assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, head of department, senior academic development practitioner, senior instructional designer and associate professor at a teacher training college and six universities in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Since joining the Durban University of Technology in 2014 he has been the Coordinator for Student Support and Development (SSD). He has been responsible for the conceptualisation and implementation of the now in-stitution-wide first year student experience (FYSE), academic advising (AA), senior year student experience (SYSE) and the School of Education hosted Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDip HE). He has been responsible for coordination of the provision of academic development services at the Midlands Centre and across DUT. As a member of Senate and AEM he serves in different committees and portifolio. His research interests are in higher education studies, student and staff development, onomastics, anthroponomastics, human resource management and applied linguistics.

Biography: I work in the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the Durban University of Technology as Coordinator: Staff Development. I have worked in the field of academic development for almost two decades and] am currently engaged in PhD study on ‘academic staff development’.  My research interests include multiparadigmatic research design, transformative education, arts based methodologies, scholarship of teaching and learning. Biography: Zodidi Ndayi joined CELT in 2014 as part of the Work Integrated Learning component of her diploma. She initially worked as an Assistant Administrator in the Recognition of Prior Learning. Later in 2014 she was appointed as an administrator for Access for Success Project. She is responsible for the logistics of the administration of Access and Placement testing viz. the Standard Assessment Test for Access and Placement (SATAP) and National Benchmarking Tests (NBTs), together with all other administrative responsibilities within the project and the unit. SATAPs and NBTs focus on Access and placement to programmes and contributing to success through designing responsive curricula.

Biography: Shubnam Rambharos works in the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the Durban University of Technology. The Access project focusses on issues of access and placement to programmes and contributing to success through designing responsive curricula. The AcLits project focusses on teaching practices and curriculum design that makes explicit the disciplinary discourses.
