Prof. Carin Napier is the Director of Research and Postgraduate Support at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). She is an Associate Professor and has been awarded as one of the top postgraduate supervisors in the Faculty of Applied Sciences for the 2016 and 2017 academic years, rated as an established researcher (C2) by the National Research Foundation (SA) 2019.  She is also an international research collaborator with the University of Applied Sciences Munster, in Germany, and Texas Tech Research University in the United States of America.

Prof. Napier is an experienced academic who has supervised various postgraduate students at DUT and other tertiary institutions. She has also published academic papers in several accredited journals. She is a reviewer of various accredited and internationally recognized journals and a member of the SA Journal of Consumer Sciences Editorial Board.

She has presented keynote addresses, research papers at numerous national and international conferences. She has an extensive knowledge in the field of Food and Nutrition and dealing with community related health challenges. She has registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Nutritionist. She is a council member of the Nutrition Society of South Africa, member of the World Public Health Nutrition Organization and the South African Association of Family Ecology and Consumer Science.
