Dr Pillay has served in the administration of higher education for 28 years, after serving as a high school English educator for six years. He was the Registrar (Academic) at the former ML Sultan Technikon before being appointed as the Director (REMO) and then Deputy Registrar at the DUT.
He commenced his undergraduate studies at the University of Durban-Westville and completed a Bachelor Of Arts Degree, a University Higher Diploma in Education and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) (cum laude) there. He then went on to complete a D Tech (Public Management) degree at the DUT.
As the Registrar, his responsibilities involve serving on and servicing various governance structures at the University, student administration systems (Student Admissions, Examinations, Academic Data and Student Records, Student Administration audits, discipline as well as aspects of student services.
