The main research focus of the centre is on the development of new and innovative renewable energy technologies and energy conservation in industrial, retail, commercial and residential sectors. Our research projects includes the development of innovative technologies for utilizing renewable energy resources especially solar, wind and sea wave energy for accomplishing the energy needs of the community as well as to minimize the use of conventional energy and its impact on the climate. We also assist SMEs and individuals in pre-assessment, funding and designing of their innovative projects in the area of renewable energy.

To facilitate the production of technology and services in energy efficiency and renewable and sustainable energy, Postgraduate research is being conducted in the following areas:

  • Solar Thermal
  • Wind / PV Hybrid systems
  • Energy Management Systems
  • Energy Audits
  • Biogas and Biofuels
  • Sea Wave Energy

Research areas presently undertaken by Postgraduate students are:

Mr Sandile Sizwe Gina: ‘Renewable Energy Hybrid Systems (Solar and wind) for rural schools and domestic applications.

Mr Kabuya Kanyinda: ‘Improving Energy use in Institutional Building through Dmaic Problem Solving

Mr Osagie Ighodara: ‘Energy Potential Assessment from Poultry litter using Anaerobic Digestion
