DUT ALUMNUS TACKLES LAND REFORM IN HIS NEWLY PUBLISHED BOOK
Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Financial Information Systems alumnus Thulasizwe Masango recently published his rst book titled: Africanisation and Globalisation.
Masango (32), from Chesterville in Durban, said that it took him six months to write this 190-page book and that his passion for writing, especially academic writing, began when he was still a student at DUT in 2012 where he was studying towards his National Diploma in Financial Information Systems.
“I was faced with numerous challenges during my academic days. This persuaded me to become a writer and become independent. I am now a researcher and self-publisher,” said Masango.
He said that he wants to become an inspiration to others through writing, especially students, and motivate them to never give up on their dreams. Further, he feels that everyone deserves a helping hand and that he dislikes people who are negative towards those who are struggling to succeed in life. Growing up, he said he had a passion for reading and writing.
Masango’s aim in writing the book was to investigate and document land reform, redistribution and restitution in
South Africa after 1994 for the purpose of developing a publicity campaign to inform the general public about the need to create community programmes to teach people how to farm.
“I used the Amazon.com website to self-publish this book but it is also available at Adams & Griggs. You can buy it from me directly – I have a stand outside Glenwood Spar near PEP where I market and sell my book,” said Masango.
One of the challenges he came across while writing this book was investigating the topic as he had to face the leaders of land reform in South Africa. He said that the land reform agenda is very important in the economic transformation of this country.
He expressed his gratitude to his favourite author, Mfuniselwa Bhengu, and DUT’s Professor Geoff Harris for their support and guidance throughout his writing journey He plans to publish more books in the future, with the hope of changing the lives of disadvantaged people.
