‘Willkommen in DUT‘

DUT hosted an Orientation Day to welcome 70 international students from Germany and France, at the Art Gallery at Steve Biko Campus, last week.
The international second, third and post-graduate students are on an exchange programme for a semester period until May 2016, an initiative driven by DUT’s Directorate: International Education and Partnerships (IEP).

The IEP was established to support DUT in its drive towards becoming a globally positioned university of technology. It also plays a vital role of encouraging internationalisation by highlighting activities in all departments to international and potential partners.

The international students were welcomed by Dr Lavern Samuels, Senior Director at the International Education and Partnerships Directorate who spoke about the University’s partnership with various German and French universities as well as the cultural diversity that existed in the province.

The international students were also informed as to where they can also go for pastoral, logistical as well as counselling at DUT campuses.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying my stay in Durban, South Africa so far,” said Jana Rief from Ravensburg University, who is studying International Business. “The culture, weather, people and the DUT system is so different compared to Germany. People are very helpful and friendly and I look forward to continuing my studies at DUT. I am very keen to learn more about this beautiful country, its culture and how people live,” he said.
