ALUMNI RELATIONS PARTNERS WITH THE FACULTY OF ARTS & DESIGN FOR THE 2017 DIGIFEST

The Development and Alumni Relations office at Durban University of Technology believes its collaboration with the Arts and Design Digital Festival (Digifest) will help increase the number of its Missing Middle campaign beneficiaries.

The two have teamed up to host a spectacular official Digifest 4 opening ceremony that will include the fundraising for the Missing Middle Campaign. The opening ceremony which takes place on 6 November 2017 at DUT City Campus’ Arthur Smith Hall, will give the audience a glimpse of what to expect at the five – day jam packed festival.

Acting Director of Development and Alumni Relations Zwakele Ngubane said his office decided to partner with Digifest by providing support to the festival organisers in order to establish a mutually beneficial relationship.

“We are providing financial support as part of our strategic objective of engaging our DUT community”, said Ngubane.

“We will have an opportunity to share our fundraising initiatives at the festival for which we hope to garner support as well. We will also be involved in raising funds for future Digifests because fundraising for various worthwhile DUT projects is part of our mandate”, he added.

The Missing Middle Campaign is an initiative aimed at providing support to students who are “too well off” to qualify for funding by the National Financial Aid Scheme, but are still “too poor” to afford their fees or any form of commercial loan.

“It is the vehicle used to raise funds for the bursary fund that is intended to assist students who are struggling to pay for their tuition fees”, continued Ngubane.

“Last year we assisted 10 students. We hope to grow this and assist more and more students each year.”

Running for the fourth time, the festival will feature a series of exhibitions, presentations, performances, live art, workshops and more. The festival aims to promote technical and social innovations with a focus on inspiring and entertaining guests.

Digifest provides a platform for creative and multimedia projects across disciplines and fields such as visual, sonic and performing arts and promotes a collaboration across art, science and technology.
