The countdown has begun for the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Celebratory Autumn Graduation Ceremonies which will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban from Monday, 11 July 2022 to Wednesday, 20 July 2022. Graduates from the Midlands campuses will celebrate their graduation at the Royal Showgrounds, Olympia Hall in Pietermaritzburg, from Monday, 25 July 2022 to Wednesday, 27 July 2022.
Following the recent government announcement to move away from the mask and venue guidelines and protocols for COVID-19, the University will be hosting the graduation celebrations without any stringent requirements. Graduates and their guests are not required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or a negative PCR test to access the graduation venue.
A total number of 9081 DUT students from the Durban and Midlands campuses, comprising 5421 women and 3660 men, will get a chance to walk on the graduation stage. These students graduated online during the recent DUT Virtual Autumn Graduation ceremonies in May 2022.
The graduation information brochure with the relevant details of the upcoming graduation ceremonies is available on the DUT website: www.dut.ac.za. It includes a graduation schedule, clearly stipulating that on a daily basis there will be three sessions; Session 1 at 09h00, Session 2 at 14h00 and Session 3 at 18h00. It is vital that all graduates know the specific sessions when they will be graduating. Graduates must ensure they arrive early at the venue, since no late comers will be allowed entry after the Chancellor constitutes the congregation.
The Faculty of Arts and Design at DUT will confer an honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Visual and Performing Arts to the seasoned, multitalented singer, actress, producer and playwright, the legendary Thembi Mtshali-Jones, who will be present during Session 1 on Wednesday, 20 July 2022.
For those who are unable to attend the physical in-person graduation event, DUT will be livestreaming all 35 ceremonies via the DUT website.
The graduates and families are encouraged to post using the special graduation hashtags to share their excitement, encouragement, and celebration via written posts, pictures, and videos.
