The Durban University of Technology, Department of Auditing & Taxation hosted their annual students’ Academic Awards ceremony for top academic achievers on Friday, 24 February 2023 at the DUT Hotel school, Ritson Campus.
These awards form part of the various initiatives by the Auditing and Taxation Department to encourage and motivate students to excel in their academic work. The Academic Awards ceremony is done every year to award top-performing students for all levels of study for their outstanding work and dedication.
Giving the welcoming address was Dr Lulu Jali; Head of Department :Taxation and Auditing who said it was an honour and privilege to welcome all students who attended the event.
She thanked all the students and congratulated them on their hard work and dedication that they have shown in their studies.
“Students please keep on being outstanding and continue excelling in your academic journey. Always remain focused and humble as well as mindful of the contribution you can bring to our society,” said Dr Jali.
According to Dr Jali some of the achievements of the Auditing & Taxation Department is the collaboration with industry partners such as the Institute of Internal Auditors and the South African of Institute of Taxation (IIA SA).
Certificates, trophies and prizes sponsored by industry partners were awarded to 48 awardees from the Auditing& Taxation department. Students received awards in various categories.
The awards were given to students who performed well in the core- department modules as well as those who were top achievers in their department. They were given to students who performed well in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Receiving more than one award was Ms Esethu Mtse; Ms Malika Hurbans; Ms Andrea Sathianandhan and Ms Misiwe Mgobhozi.
Speaking to Ms Mgobhozi she said that the number of awards she had received caught her by surprise, but she attributed them to her hard work and sacrifice.
“I was not expecting so many awards, but I guess handwork pays off after all. Thank you to the lecturers for their patients with us, “she said.
Giving the vote of thanks was Mr Dharmesh Bhagwan, he said that this student award initiative, is a great initiative because it motivates students to excel in their academics and want to do more.
