The Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2023 Autumn Graduation ceremonies commenced this morning, Monday,15 May 2023 at the Indumiso Campus Hall, Pietermaritzburg. A total of 8122 students will be graduating from the Midlands and Durban campuses, over 33 individual ceremonies.
The Midlands graduation are being held over three days commencing on Monday, 15 May 2023 are set to end on Wednesday, 17 May 2023. The Durban graduation ceremonies will be hosted at the Olive Convention Centre from Monday, 22 May 2023 to Wednesday, 31 May 2023.
The opening session was facilitated by the Midlands Campus Director, Dr Joe Molete who mentioned that women will dominate the DUT graduation ceremonies, sitting at 61% of the overall graduands. A total of 4977 women and 3145 men are set to graduate during the DUT 2023 Autumn Graduation.
There were loud cheers, dance and ululation as the “teachers” took to the graduation stage to obtain their Bachelor of Education degrees. Presenting the graduands was the Executive Dean: Faculty of Arts and Design, Professor Runette Kruger who was extremely proud of the students from her Faculty for their hard work and dedication to their studies. The DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu awarded the Certificates, Diplomas and Conferment of Degrees.
Giving the vote of thanks was Prof Kruger who congratulated for rising above all the internal and external challenges they faced. She wished them well as they go out there to serve the communities and reminded them to always uphold the DUT values and principles.
“Every one of you who has reached this milestone today, represents a stronger, better resourced community around you. I encourage you to remember that yes, you can whenever you are presented with a challenge, please think back to this day. I congratulate and salute you. I am grateful to celebrate this day with you,” said Prof Kruger.
