The 2021/2022 Student Representative Council (SRC) Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Zethembe Msizi from uMlazi in Durban graduated at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre (OCC) this morning on Thursday, 26 May 2023.

Msizi divulged that he wanted to be an accountant, as he was inspired by his Grade 8 teacher who told him that he should pursue Accounting because he was getting good grades on the Economic Management Sciences (EMS). He graduated for his Advanced Diploma in Accounting, and he further shared that Accounting was his first choice at DUT.

The former SRC-DSG  gave insight that his journey at DUT has been adventurous and full of growth.

“My life has impacted many other lives as I joined the student movement from my first year in DUT until now. I have never faced any challenges personally, but I had experiences of people I knew who were facing challenges and some of them dropped out. I made it a vow to go out and assist every person that I can to overcome their challenges to ensure that they continue with their studies. My role as a student activist has always been to advance others and pave a path for those who come before us,” explained Msizi.

Furthermore, Msizi shared that being in the SRC gave him another perspective in life. The Postgraduate Diploma student added that he wants pursue his Master’s Degree after he has secured stable employment. Advising first year students who are enrolled in the Accounting programme, he said: “In all that you do, remember that for as long as you don’t have love and passion for Accounting, you will not get anywhere, it gets more complicated each year. Never lose focus, study and practice as much as you can, do research and equip yourself with new skills as the world is evolving,” he advised.
