STUDYING THROUGH HER EMPLOYER’S GRANT MOTIVATED MBALI SABELA TO EXCEL IN HER ACADEMICS

A career driven Mbali Sabela from uMthwalume in the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal Mbali Sabela (31) graduated Cum Laude for her Advanced Diploma in Quality Management at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre (OCC) on Friday afternoon (26 May 2023).

The Cum Laude graduate divulged that previously she has graduated for her Bachelor of Technology in chemistry at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), and she pursued Quality Management because she wanted to branch out of chemistry but still study something that will fit into her current chemistry qualification.

Furthermore, Sabela added that it was her first time studying at DUT and the registration was the hardest part, she ended up registering 3 weeks after classes had commenced. The Cum Laude graduate shared that to catch up on the classes that she missed, she would watch the recorded classes that were available on Microsoft Teams, and she further applauded her classmates who were supportive and updating her.

Sabela gave some insight on the other challenges that she encountered, “Being a part time student, you really don’t have enough time on your hands, working full time and studying through my employer’s study grant motivated me to work hard, a failure was going to be taxing in time and on my finances,” she stressed.

The dedicated and hardworking Cum Laude graduate shared that she was happy upon learning that she had completed her Advanced Diploma, but she was astounded by the fact that she will be graduating Cum Laude.

“Graduating Cum Laude was a surprise to me because I wasn’t really working towards it, my goal was to pass and get my qualification, I am very much excited because it is my first time graduating Cum Laude,” she beamed.
