MBOKAZI GRADUATES WITH CUM LAUDE AND THE DEAN’S MERIT AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

“If you manage your time effectively and create time for your books then success is guaranteed for you,” said the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Thamsanqa Mbokazi.

Mbokazi graduated Cum Laude and obtained the Dean’s Merit award for his Diploma in Public Administration: Local Government Management during the DUT Autumn graduation on Saturday, 27 May 2023. The ceremony took place at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards his brother, Sanele Mbokazi, who also obtained a Dean’s Merit award. Mbokazi’s background in Information Communication Technology proved invaluable in navigating the world of online learning, providing the necessary support and understanding. Mbokazi added that his brother’s guidance and expertise laid a strong foundation, enabling him to excel academically during this challenging period.

Throughout his journey at DUT, Mbokazi was fortunate to have several mentors who made a significant impact. He listed Dr Strinivasan S Pillay, the Head of Department (HOD) for having played a pivotal role in instilling belief and providing opportunities for growth. Mrs Vanissa Kessa, Mr Fanyana Ntuli, and Dr Mal Reddy were also influential figures who contributed in ensuring that he enjoyed his time at DUT. Their guidance and support were instrumental in nurturing a passion for learning.

The remarkable achievements of Mbokazi extended beyond the borders of South Africa. Dr. Pillay’s unwavering belief in his abilities led to the publication of two papers at the prestigious University of DePaul in Chicago, USA. This international recognition is a testament to their academic prowess and the impact they have made in their field of study.

Mbokazi’s story also serves as a beacon of hope for everyone that face adversity. He reminded students that with the right support, dedication, and respect for time, one can achieve greatness.

“I dedicate my achievement to my son, Mvelo. This is a motivation that anything is possible if you put all of your effort in it,” he said.
