DR MBANDLWA REPRESENTED DUT AT THE REGENESYS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC MANAGEMENT: ETHICS AND GOVERNANCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR WEBINAR

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Dr Zamokuhle Mbandlwa represented DUT at the Regenesys School of Public Management; Ethics and Governance in a Public Sector webinar. Dr Mbandlwa is a Senior Lecturer at the DUT Department of Public Management and Economics. The webinar was hosted via Zoom on 27 June 2023.

Prof Marvin Kambuwa, Principal of Regenesys School of Public Management was the host and facilitator of the webinar. He welcomed the panellists and the attendees of the webinar. Prof Kambuwa said it was hard to select the panellists but the appointed individuals were selected because of their amazing resumes. He then allowed the panellists to introduce themselves and say which organisations they were representing.

Dr Zamokuhle Mbandlwa stated the importance of the webinar and that such engagements were vital as it assisted in finding a way forward and that at the end of the webinar there was an opportunity to look at finding solutions on what was discussed in the webinar.

Dr Mbandlwa highlighted that his passion was on Ethical Leadership and Good Governance. His talk was based on corruption; he also talked about how society can be corrupted which includes from government level to the corporate businesses operating in the different communities.

“Corruption is an end result, no one wakes up as a corrupt individual but they are built up moments where a person starts acting unethically. Which then leads to a mother of all, which is called corruption,” explained Dr Mbandlwa.

Other speakers spoke on organisational behaviour, labour and society at large, ethical leadership, public procurement and the absence of political will.

Dr Kambuwa asked the panellists about solutions that can help with corruption in society and the panellists provided feedback, saying that teaching children about ethics, and teaching students about ethics in university, was crucial.

The panel also discussed the platforms to be implemented on educating society about ethics.  The entire panel agreed on certain recommendations that they were each going to take back to their spaces and explore further discussions on the various key topics that they engaged on.
