DUT IEP BIDS FAREWELL TO FINAL-YEAR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The DUT International Education and Partnerships (IEP) unit hosted the 2023 International Students’ Farewell at Mojos in Davenport on Friday, November 17, 2023, to bid farewell to international students who have completed their study period, including the 2nd-semester exchange students who have also reached the end of their semester-abroad programme at DUT. The official proceedings were chaired by Mr. Kieron Dzwairo, DUT International Students’ Organization (ISO) Project Officer (2023).

The function programme included an awards ceremony for students whose contributions have gone beyond academic activities, including the ISO executive committee as a recognized DUT student society forming part of the many other Student Services housed under the Dean of Students. The 2024 ISO executive committee was officially introduced, and Mr. Nikho Siga was present to observe on behalf of the Dean of Students, Mr. Clement Moreku.

In her welcome, Ms. Divinia Jithoo, Manager (IEP), highlighted that the IEP celebrates all international students at DUT and will remain the institution’s pride and joy for all their excellent work. She looks forward to more collaborations in the future.

In his farewell speech, Dr Lavern Samuels, Director of International Education and Partnership, further congratulated the students: “International education is about transformation, it’s about changing our society, and all of us can see the type of world we live in. I hope it is not the end of the journey with DUT and that some of you return as academics and work at DUT. I wish you well in your future endeavors and thank you for representing your countries well.”

DUT Dramatic Arts students, led by Mr. Akhona Junior Mhlungu, performed at the event using their stage name, the Miners. They gave an impressive performance with the gumboots showcase, leaving the students wanting more. Ms. Carol Newman, International Education Officer (IEP), closed the function and thanked everyone who could attend, those who assisted in the planning, and ensured that the event was a great success.
