A week-long engagement in person pertaining to advancing Animation took place on DUT’s City Campus last week. Swedish experts in motion graphics animation for media, advertising and movies, Faculty of Arts and Design staff, Postgraduate students and academics from Central University of Technology and UniZulu converged for the Animation Masterclass.
The week also entailed discussions on postgraduate and research collaborations such as joint-degrees, creative research outputs, scholarly publications, exhibitions, conferences, co-supervision, postgraduate examination, and staff and postgraduate student exchange programmes between DUT, the Swedish universities and all the participants of the Masterclass.
Dr Dianna Moodley, Research Coordinator in the Faculty of Arts and Design at DUT, who is at the forefront of this project, initiated this project through the Short Course Unit (SCU) at DUT.
Speaking at the final day of the Masterclass, she said: “I know there is a lot of scope for collaborations. There are some exciting possibilities and phenomenal spin-offs generated from this engagement. We are confident that it will yield sustainable outcomes.
Dr Moodley then introduced the Swedish experts, (Solomon Oyelere – Lulea University of Technology, William Jobe; Mikael Andersson and Stefan Tidlund from University West), who facilitated the Masterclass at DUT.
The week culminated at the Faculty’s Annual Research Conference held at Coastlands Hotel, Musgrave, where the Swedish wowed delegates with an Animation exhibition, after which they presented the graduates of the 2023 DUT Short Course in Animation and Masterclass with their certificates of completion.
