MSOMI INSPIRES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE WITH DUAL HONOURS FOR DUT FACULTY RESEARCH OF THE YEAR AND INTERNATIONAL BEST RESEARCHER AWARD

In a resounding acknowledgment of academic prowess and dedication to ground breaking research, Thabiso Sthembiso Msomi, a distinguished lecturer at the Durban University of Technology’s Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, Department of Management Accounting, has received two prestigious awards within the span of a month. The accolades not only celebrate his outstanding contributions to the local academic community but also recognises his global impact in the fields of Accounting and Financial Management.

The first feather in Mr Msomi’s cap was the Faculty Researcher of the Year award (Platinum category), which he secured at the Institutional Awards ceremony held on 24 November 2023 at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC). The ceremony, a momentous occasion for the Durban University of Technology (DUT), brought together faculty members, students, and esteemed guests to honour excellence in various categories.

His accomplishment was particularly commendable, given the rigorous selection process and the stiff competition from his peers. The Faculty Researcher of the Year award underscores his commitment to advancing knowledge within the realm of management accounting, showcasing his exceptional research skills and dedication to academic excellence.

The celebration did not end there for Mr Msomi. On 28 November 2023, he added another prestigious accolade to his name – the “2023 Best Researcher Award” at the “International Research Awards on Accounting and Financial Management.” This international recognition, was hosted to acknowledge outstanding researchers on a global scale, is a pinnacle achievement in the academic world.

When asked how he had felt upon receiving these two awards, he said: “I would like to express my gratitude to the Lord, who has blessed me with the strength and ability to pursue extensive research. It is with a profound sense of honour that I am acknowledged as the Faculty Researcher of the Year and recipient of the Best Research award. As a young researcher, this recognition serves as a powerful motivator, inspiring me to intensify my research efforts. Knowing that my work has earned recognition reinforces my commitment to advancing knowledge through meaningful contributions in my field. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to my colleagues who collaborated with me and to my students who serve as a constant source of inspiration every day. In accepting these accolades, I am reminded of the responsibility that comes with this honour, and I pledge to continue my dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and excellence.”

Also acknowledging these achievements was Professor Swanepoel, Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics.
