The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Phumelele Kubheka, a Marketing and Public Relations intern at Marketing, Corporate Affairs.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I work as a marketing intern at the marketing unit, Corporate Affairs.”
Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I joined the DUT family last year in March 2023.”
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “Honesty, I believe I am a truthful person and being honest with how you live your life and how you treat other people who you come across is very important to me.”
.Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?
A: “My view on the DUT tagline is that it promotes creativity amongst the DUT community. It encourages the DUT community to be creative and have an impact in the community they live in.”
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By living by the values and leading with example.”
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I enjoy my own space and I am also an introvert.”
Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
A: “In my opinion, the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework will make the university be the best University of Technology in the country and it will produce adaptive graduates that not only seek employment but also create employment.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “I enjoy watching series and scrolling through various social media platforms.”
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
A: “By ensuring that I do my job exceptionally well.”
Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “My parents as they have been my biggest supporters, also waking up every day to get much closer to reaching my dreams and goals.”
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “Getting a permanent job and to further my studies.”
Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “To help the ones in need.”
