Louwellan Moodley (45) who will be graduating with his Advanced Diploma in Technical Education Cum Laude at the Indumiso Campus in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 13 May 2024; aims to become a Durban University of Technology (DUT) lecturer.
“After much deliberation, I have decided that I want to lecture at DUT. I want to give back from my experience in the industry and the TVET sector. I would like to further myself academically by joining universities like DUT. I see this as my way of giving back to the community. Enriching others with the knowledge I have acquired over the years in my trade gives me immense satisfaction,’’ he said.
Hailing from Pietermaritzburg, Moodley is currently enrolled for a Bachelor of Education Honours in Technology degree. He is a Mechanical Engineering lecturer at uMgungundlovu TVET College in Plessislaer, Pietermaritzburg.
He is a qualified artisan in the trade of fitting and turning with 14 years of experience. Also, he is a test assessment practitioner registered with the National Artisan Moderation Body of South Africa. Moodley is a registered assessor and moderator registered with Merseta and QCTO.
Expressing his excitement on passing with Cum Laude, he claimed that this achievement feels so rewarding after working so hard for the past two years. “Graduating with Cum Laude or even with the Dean’s Merit Award is a remarkable achievement and a testament to my dedication and hard work throughout my academic journey at DUT,’’ he said.
He further revealed that DUT ENVISION2030 living values and principles recognises diversity and inclusion. “In my experience at DUT, I have seen that they are committed to making an impact on society through their research and education activities,’’ he added.
He shared his advice and requested that the first-year students approach their academics with a curious and receptive attitude. “Since technical education encompasses a wide variety of subjects and skills, take advantage of the opportunity to try new things and acquire new abilities,’’ he concluded.
