DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Vukani Langa, spoke to Sinethemba Njoko, a Gym Supervisor and a Marketing Coordinator based at the Sports Administration Unit.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am a Gym Supervisor and a Marketing Coordinator. My role is to direct and coordinate the operations of the DUT gym to ensure protocol and discipline is maintained. To ensure a safe training environment and manage all the social media platforms that have been established.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?

A: “I joined DUT on 01 February 2022, so it has been over two years.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?

A: “I associate with commitment because it improves performance which leads to higher productivity. As a person who is under the Sports Administration unit, influencing effectiveness, persistence, resilience, cooperation, learning, and growth is important.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?

A: “I find it inspiring because it suggests a focus on innovation, uniqueness, and the ability to make a meaningful difference. Every day I strive to be creative, distinctive and make a positive impact in the society.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?

A: “I am planning to keep abreast by making sure that I reflect on ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework every day and have conversations with colleagues on it so that it can dwell in my mind.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: “People do not know that I am an overthinker, I think of every situation excessively.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?

A: “DUT staff and students will imbed their commitment to the DUT culture.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I love writing articles and attending games or aerobics marathons.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?

A: “By making sure that I serve our students and staff with professionalism and commitment. Also, to create programmes that will maintain their wellness.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?

A: “Excel in your own way and let your work speak for you are the words from the DUT Sports Officer, Takalani Mfamadi, who is my supervisor.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?

A: “I plan to continue with my studies until I obtain my Master’s degree”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

A: “To create more job opportunities for graduates.”
