SPHUMELELE NZIMANDE IS INSPIRED BY HER PASSION FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS

“My qualification signifies a milestone in my professional journey, validating the expertise and commitment I have to the field of Public Relations (PR) and Communication Management, expressed Sphumelele Nzimande.

The talented 22-year-old graduate Nzimande is a social media officer for the DUT Project Management Office focusing on the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP). She graced the graduation stage with great excitement to be awarded her Advanced Diploma in Management Sciences: Public Relations and Communication Management at the Durban University (DUT) 2024 Autumn Graduation ceremony which was held at the Indumiso Campus Hall on Tuesday, 14 May 2024.

She shared her amazing journey at DUT that aligns with her qualifications and career path.

Her journey at DUT has been marked with excitement and discovery from participating in public relation initiatives to delving into the captivating world of broadcasting and voiceovers. “After enrolling at DUT in 2019, I embarked on my Work Integrated Learning (WIL) training in 2021 at the South African (SA) Navy under the Public Relations Department. In 2023, the Youth Employment Services  through the DUT Human Capital Services offered me the opportunity to become their intern which paved the way for my current position within the Project Management Office,” she said.

Nzimande’s bubbly and interactive personality allows her to engage with others and share narratives that resonate deeply.

“In 2022, I discovered a passion for voiceovers and broadcasting, adding an exciting dimension to my journey. DUT has offered me the opportunity to embrace all my talents and I am very grateful. Transitioning from being a student to staff has also been an incredible experience filled with so much support and guidance. I would like to extend my special thanks to Mrs Slindile Qwabe and Dr Joe Molete for their invaluable mentorship,” she explained.

Moreover, Nzimande extended her gratitude to everyone who is supporting her journey, especially her family, friends, lecturers and mentors as their unwavering support has been very instrumental in her success.

Nzimande is currently doing her Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations and aspires to pursue a Master’s Degree next year to deepen her knowledge and expertise in the field.
