Graduating Cum Laude for his Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a symbol of hard work and dedication for 29-year-old Cameron Kyle Narainsamy’. He graduated from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn graduation on 20 May 2024.
Narainsamy’s educational journey commenced in 2014 when he embarked on his pursuit of a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at DUT. Balancing academic life with part-time work on weekends posed an initial challenge, yet he persevered, fuelled by his determination to succeed. In 2018, Narainsamy proudly graduated with his National Diploma, a milestone that marked the peak of years of dedication and effort.
Undeterred by the demands of the working world, Narainsamy continued to forge ahead, enrolling in the Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering program while maintaining full-time employment. Despite the inherent challenges of juggling work and academic studies, he emerged triumphant, graduating with his BTech in 2019. His focus then shifted towards gaining invaluable experience in the engineering field, laying the groundwork for future endeavors.
In 2022, Narainsamy embarked on a new chapter in his academic journey, setting his sights on a Master’s degree. However, a change in the qualification framework necessitated a detour through an Honours degree. Undeterred by this hurdle, he registered for and completed his Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours in Mechanical Engineering in 2023, graduating with distinction.
Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Narainsamy shares, “Graduating Cum Laude with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering has been an immensely fulfilling journey for me. It symbolizes years of dedication, hard work, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.” He attributes his success not only to his academic prowess but also to the unwavering support of his family, friends, and mentors who have been pillars of strength throughout his transformative journey.
Narainsamy’s path to success was not without its challenges. Balancing the demands of full-time work with academic studies required meticulous organization and unwavering discipline. Yet, through perseverance and a commitment to giving his best effort, he navigated through the obstacles with determination.
Mechanical Engineering, Narainsamy’s chosen field of study, resonated with his passion for problem-solving and the fundamental role of mathematics in engineering. His aspirations extend beyond academic accolades, with plans to pursue a Master of Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration in the future.
As he looks ahead, Narainsamy sets his sights on achieving professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) this year, a significant milestone in his career journey. His advice to aspiring scholars echoes his own journey: “Achieving good results while working and going to school is not impossible. If you are willing to keep pushing through challenging circumstances, nothing is impossible.”
